Elections of the municipal council of Tilburg
On 18 March 2026, Tilburg will hold its municipal elections. On this page, you’ll find all the key information you need.
The elections will take place on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.
You can vote in the Tilburg municipal elections if you meet the following conditions:
- You are 18 years or older on election day.
- You are not banned from voting.
- You were registered as a resident of Tilburg on nomination day.
You do not need Dutch nationality to vote in municipal elections. EU citizens living in Tilburg can vote too. Non-EU citizens can also vote if they have legally lived in the Netherlands for at least five years.
Want to stand for election yourself?
The rules are almost the same. The only difference is that your eligibility is checked on the day you officially join the council.
An information session will be held on 26 June 2025 for all political parties interested in taking part in the municipal elections. There are two ways to get involved:
- Join an existing political party that will be participating.
- Start your own political party.
If you decide to start your own party, you can find all the requirements on the website of the Dutch Electoral Council (Kiesraad). In short, you’ll need to submit 30 supporting signatures and pay a deposit of €225. This deposit will be refunded if your party wins one or more seats.

- Voting materials (such as the voting card and candidate lists) are in Dutch.
- You must bring a valid ID (passport, ID card, or residence permit) to the polling station.
- EU citizens can also stand as a candidate in the elections.
Non-EU citizens can stand after five years of legal residence. - If you are unable to vote yourself, you can authorize someone else to vote on your behalf (voting by proxy).
